Mark Ring, M.A.
Registered Clinical Counsellor
About me...
I have a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. I am a “Registered Clinical Counsellor" with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, which means that I am required to meet certain professional standards. I have been a counsellor since 2002, initially working as an addictions counsellor in Vancouver, Whistler and Nanaimo and in private practice since 2010.
Before becoming a counsellor I worked as a research scientist at UBC, a fact that has influenced my therapeutic approach. I now use an approach that has a strong foundation in proven research and is consistent with our understanding of how the brain works.
This method of working understands the importance of emotions and works largely with the interactions of our thoughts with those emotions. Mindfulness plays a central role in this. I am also trained in Hypnotherapy which can be very effective in a variety of situations, including removing the effects of past trauma. My goals in therapy are both the alleviation of immediate suffering and building resilience for the future.
So if you are feeling in need of some help please contact me for a free consultation and we will determine how I can be of assistance to you.
